Capstone ® is a simulated business game. To wrap up the learning, it is essential all the management concepts and practices are fully understood and applied in a near real environment. The participants are grouped into teams. Each group consists of 5-6 participants. Each group of students is allotted a business unit with certain resources at a point in time. These are financial allocations, access to market, Production facilities, a quantum of human resources, R & D capabilities, IP Rights etc, the participants are expected to run the business for a cycle of eight years in an intense competitive environment with a set of regulatory framework.
 
At the outset they set out their financial objectives, i.e. purpose of running the business. It could be ROE, ROS, ROA, Stock Price, Market Cap, Market Share, Asset Turnover or just Profit. They now come up with a dovetailing business strategy that would support their stated financial objectives. In Capstone® the students form into a team. Each team owns a business of its own. They have the option to pick any of the six strategies. There are six functional areas viz. R&D, Marketing, Production, Finance, HR and TQM. The market has five segments. They begin with one product in each segment. They can launch three new products in segments of their choice. They run the business for eight financial years, i.e. eight rounds. The students manage one function area one round and one market segment one round, by rotation and spread over several cycles. They are exposed constantly to very intense dynamic market and financial inputs that would have a far reaching impact on business strategy and operations in an unstable regulatory framework. During the process of learning, participants are individually exposed to test their individual business acumen.
